Facilities Training: Operational & Management

Facilities Management – Essential Compliance Simplified

This training module focuses on identifying the details of The Joint Commission requirements and applying them to your Facilities Management processes. We start by using Best Practices already identified within your program.  Then we focus on improving processes that may be ineffective or impeding requirement fulfillment.  We look at facility areas such as work-order flow/management for the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including medical gas systems and emergency power generation.  This simple approach utilizes procedures and forms developed specifically for your organization to get your team’s effectiveness up and requirements met with your improved methods.

Performance Improvement and Monitoring

During a construction/renovation project, there are key requirements necessary to remain compliant with standards while minimizing patient and hospital operational impact. This course provides relevant information to all levels of construction/renovation projects.  It includes understanding project management have to have's within an operating health care environment.  This course reviews and discusses the requirements necessary to stay compliant while minimizing operational impact; critical for keeping your facility open during these periods of improvement.

Scheduling Made Easy

Quality Construction/Renovation projects begin with the documents necessary to effectively communicate with the organizations entire staff about timing and duration of these projects.  The instructor will discuss the fundamental requirements of developing a quality schedule specifically discussing Manday Estimating, Duration, Logic Networks and Precedence Networks.  This is not a Planning and Estimating course rather it is specific to Managing Projects.

HAZMAT – 1st Responder Training

This course prepares attendees to meet OSHA requirements for first responders.  First responders at the awareness level are individuals who are likely to witness or discover a hazardous substance release and who have been trained to initiate an emergency response sequence by notifying the proper authorities of the release.  They would take no further action beyond notifying the authorities of the release.  This course trains first responders to objectively demonstrate competency in the following areas:
  • An understanding of the potential outcomes associated with an emergency created when hazardous substances are present.
  • The ability to recognize the presence of hazardous substances in an emergency.
  • The ability to identify the hazardous substances, if possible.
  • An understanding of the role of the first responder and a review of the organizations spill procedures, available spill response supplies and equipment.
  • The ability to realize the need for additional resources, and to make appropriate notifications to the communication center.

This course reviews the standards and procedures for the operational staff responsible for the storage, packaging, transport and documentation of hazardous wastes.  It reviews your organization’s emergency response plan including site security and control and the U.S. Department of Transportation's Emergency Response Guidebook.

General Safety

When Safety is a part of the culture, attitudes reflect safety, and actions reflect attitude.  Healthcare facilities, as a high reliability organization, must maintain a commitment to safety at all levels, from frontline providers to managers and executives. This commitment establishes a "culture of safety." Beginning with the safety basics we train using your own organization’s appropriate policies and procedures.  Our training helps develop a culture of safety by:
  • Cultivating an understanding of the high-risk nature of your organizations activities
  • Impressing a determined and intentional mind-set to achieve consistently safe operations
  • Encouraging collaboration across ranks and disciplines to seek solutions to safety problems
  • Reviewing organizational resources to address safety concerns.

Hot Work Review & Training

Training

Repairs, construction, and installations may require working with ignition sources near flammable materials, known as “Hot Work.”  Work of this nature requires compliance-specific processes and procedures or a Hot Work Program.  GHS&A provides Hot Work training, for employees, supervisors, maintenance individuals, fire safety group, and contractors.  This training is role specific and procedure driven.  It includes defining the process and procedures by role, responsibilities, permit procedures, safety group and fire watch responsibilities, requirements, permits, and general safety-specific practices.

Review

GHS&A conducts a thorough review of your organization’s ‘Hot Work’ program where we assess your policies, procedures, training status, permitting process, and communication process.  Our goal is to identify gaps or incomplete areas that don’t meet or exceed standards.  Your results are provided in a report with recommendations to increase compliance or lower risk or a training presentation that pinpoints specific action items, roles, and solutions.
