HAZMAT

In a healthcare setting, hazardous materials including waste products are abundant and present a threatening potential for exposure.  The fact is they are part of the everyday context of healthcare.  As such, it is critical that HAZMAT is not treated as “everyday” but every exposure should follow the proper procedure or protocol.

GHS&A are committed to a safe healthcare environment regarding the proper understanding of regulations and standards for safeguarding hazardous materials.  We observe, survey, and record both issues of noncompliance and gaps in procedures that could lead to injury or faults, including proper documentation and MSDS labeling.

Our MSDS training include the tracking and understanding of the MSDS process for documenting, hazardous and potentially hazardous materials; identifying health and risk hazards; and effective safe handling, precautions, and first aid.

Our training targets the staff from a perspective of attitude influences action approach.  Employees should have a basic knowledge of the proper procedures in the special handling, use, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and wastes.   We train for understanding and to develop an attitude of personal responsibility.  Procedures are defined by local, state, or federal regulation and our instruction is straightforward to ensure a literal interpretation and successful results. GHS&A can also train staffs to follow the OSHA regulations for blood borne pathogens regarding disposal of any blood or blood-soaked items.  Other hazardous materials that are important for staff to know are the handling and disposal of radioactive waste, hazardous vapors (e.g., gluteraldehyde, ethylene oxide, nitrous oxide), and hazardous energy sources (i.e., ionizing or non-ionizing radiation, lasers, microwave, ultrasound).
